Dominated by the Pic de la Coquillade at an altitude of 720 metres, AOC Faugères is a veritable natural balcony, situated in the foothills of the Cevennes. This is a harsh, rocky terroir, where schist rules. Faugères is the only Langudoc appellation boasting such a homogenous terroir. The formation of its schist took place long ago. It was produced from the compression that resulted from the creation of the Massif Central, derived from clay sea deposits dating back to the primary era. These poor and extremely acid soils, allow water to filter through.
As a result, the terroir is extremely beautiful - sometimes silver, grey or bluish, sometimes "ocre", often flakey, layered and dense at the same time, silky to the touch.
It takes in the heat during the daytime, releasing it during the cool hours of the evening, thereby promoting the maturation of the vineyard's grapes. Situated in the Northwest part of the appellation's zone of production, our vineyard is planted on steep slopes ranging from 150 to 350 metres in altitude. It is exposed to a Mediterranean climate and wind blowing alternatively from different directions (Tramontane and Marin).
Careful grape growing, low yields, the use of local grape varieties, and the work of an enthusiastic team…simple means ensure that we keep in harmony with this terroir
